The Marmaris passenger port is east of the town centre, at the start of the road to Günnücek National Park. According to the ferry operator, the port has a taxi rank and a car park.

  • On foot: 10–15 minutes from Marmaris centre and the seafront.
  • By dolmuş: the pink Yalancı Boğaz dolmuş comes right to the port gate.
  • By taxi: about 10 km from İçmeler, about 22 km from Turunç.
  • By rental car: you can hand the car over to us at the port; like the other points in Marmaris centre, the port is a free delivery point.
  • With your own car: ask at the entrance about the car park fee and whether you can leave the car overnight.

Your Rental Car Cannot Go to Rhodes: Three Practical Options

The Marmaris–Rhodes route carries foot passengers only; the operators do not take vehicles. On top of that, rental cars may not be taken outside Türkiye. Some older pages still say you can drive across to Rhodes; that is no longer the case. You have three options for your car:

  • According to the operators, the crossing takes about 1 hour by passenger catamaran; no car ferry runs on this route.
  • In summer there are several sailings every day; in autumn and winter sailings may be less frequent, so check the current days with the operator.
  • Going and coming back the same day is possible. According to the operator, if you take the first sailing out and the last one back you have about 5 hours on Rhodes.
  • There are one-way, same-day return and open return tickets; with an open ticket, confirm your return day with the operator in advance.
  • A reasonable amount of luggage is accepted; bulky items may not be taken on the passenger catamaran.
  • Times change with the season and the weather; check the sailing time and ticket conditions with the operator before you travel.

At the Port Step by Step: Check-in and Passport Control

  • Buy your ticket in advance; in summer and on Turkish holidays sailings can be full.
  • Turkish citizens pay the departure fee online in advance; the operator says there is no payment point at the port.
  • Be at the port at least 1 hour before departure and collect your boarding card from the operator's check-in office.
  • Without a boarding card you cannot go through passport control; after passport control you wait for the boat in the customs area.
  • On Rhodes you go through passport control; on busy days this can take a while.
  • The same steps apply on the way back: get your boarding card in Rhodes and be at the port before departure.

For Turkish Citizens: Express Visa and Required Documents

Holders of green (special) and grey (service) passports travel without a visa; anyone with a valid Schengen visa can also enter with it. For ordinary (burgundy) passport holders, Greece runs an express visa scheme for Turkish citizens. The scheme has been extended to April 2027 and covers 12 islands, including Rhodes.

  • The visa is valid only for the island you enter and for a stay of up to 7 days; you cannot travel on to another island, mainland Greece or other Schengen countries.
  • You apply in advance through the ferry operator or an agency; the visa is issued on arrival in Rhodes. Documents have to be handed in a few days before; ask your operator how many.
  • Documents the operator asks for: a passport valid for at least 6 months, 2 biometric photos, bank statements for the last 3 months, a return ticket and a hotel booking if you stay overnight. Some agencies may ask for more.
  • Day trips are allowed; a hotel booking is only needed if you stay overnight.
  • Fingerprints are taken during the application process; in busy periods the wait at passport control on Rhodes can be long.

For Foreign Visitors: Schengen, EES and Coming Back to Türkiye

Rhodes is in Greece, and Greece is in the Schengen area. The express visa is only for Turkish citizens; everyone else follows the Schengen rules.

  • EU citizens travel with a passport or a valid national ID card.
  • UK citizens can stay in the Schengen area for 90 days in any 180 without a visa; according to the UK government, the passport must have been issued within the last 10 years and be valid for at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area.
  • The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully in use since 10 April 2026; for non-EU travellers entry is recorded digitally instead of a passport stamp; details can differ by nationality. ETIAS has not started yet.
  • Citizens of countries that need a Schengen visa (for example Russia) can only enter Rhodes with a valid Schengen visa obtained in advance.
  • Coming back to Türkiye: citizens of visa-exempt countries can return the same day. If you came on a single-entry Turkish visa, you may need a new one to return; check on evisa.gov.tr.
  • For those under the 90-days-in-180 rule, a trip to Rhodes does not restart your permitted stay in Türkiye.

A Few Hours on Rhodes: What to See on Foot

Day trippers have about 5 hours on Rhodes; that is enough to explore the Old Town and its surroundings on foot. The currency on the island is the euro.

  • The Medieval City of Rhodes: the walled Old Town has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1988.
  • The Palace of the Grand Master: a palace from the time of the Knights and the best-known building in the Old Town.
  • The Street of the Knights: a cobbled medieval street running down from the palace towards the harbour.
  • Mandraki Harbour: the old harbour just outside the walls, with cafés and boat trips along the quay.
  • Hippocrates Square and the bazaar: the easiest places in the Old Town's narrow streets to eat and shop.

If you want to rent a car on Rhodes, that is a separate rental in Greece under the local company's licence rules; it cannot be combined with your rental in Türkiye.
