Marmaris to Fethiye and Ölüdeniz by Car: Road Guide

Fethiye and Ölüdeniz are among the most popular longer day-trip and overnight routes from Marmaris by car. The road follows the main highway through Dalaman and is comfortable to drive. Here is what you need to plan the trip.
Distance and time
From Marmaris to Fethiye the drive takes about 2 hours in normal traffic. Ölüdeniz is a short distance beyond Fethiye; allow 2 to 2.5 hours in total from Marmaris. The Ölüdeniz road can get busy in summer and at weekends.
Route
From Marmaris take the D400 towards Köyceğiz and Ortaca; after passing Dalaman you reach Fethiye via Göcek. The route is mostly easy and well signposted. From Fethiye follow the signs for Hisarönü and Ovacık to reach Ölüdeniz.
Places to see on the way and around Fethiye
- Dalyan and İztuzu: a short detour from the Ortaca exit; stop for the canal boat trip and the long beach.
- Fethiye town: a lively city with a marina, bazaar and seafront restaurants.
- Kayaköy: a village of abandoned stone houses, almost an open-air museum.
- Ölüdeniz: one of the best-known coasts in Turkey, with its turquoise lagoon and Belcekız beach; paragliding flights from Babadağ land here too.
- Butterfly Valley: a steep cove reached only by sea.
- Saklıkent Gorge: about an hour from Fethiye, a gorge popular for cooling off in summer.
Driving and parking tips
- In season it can be hard to find parking in Ölüdeniz and central Fethiye; go early or use paid car parks.
- Some beaches and nature areas may charge an entrance fee; check before you go.
- On days when you combine dolmuş buses and boats, leave the car in a safe car park.
- Check your daily mileage limit: Marmaris–Fethiye–Ölüdeniz and back is a long day trip.
Tips if you are renting a car
- Bring your driving licence, ID or passport and a credit card for the deposit.
- The car is handed over with a full tank and returned with a full tank; fill up before heading towards Fethiye.
