Marmaris to Datça by Car: A Road Guide

The Datça Peninsula is one of the best day trips from Marmaris. The road is winding, but the scenery more than pays you back. Here is what to know before you set off.
Distance and journey time
Marmaris to Datça is about 70–75 km. Because the road is hilly and full of bends, the drive takes between 1 and 1.5 hours in normal conditions. Knidos, at the tip of the peninsula, is roughly another 35 km beyond Datça.
What to see on the way and in Datça
- Datça town: a small harbour town with restaurants, cafés and a seafront promenade.
- Old Datça: stone houses, narrow lanes and boutique shops — the peninsula's best-loved village.
- Palamutbükü and Hayıtbükü: quiet bays, beaches and seaside restaurants.
- Knidos ancient city: at the very end of the peninsula, known for its two harbours and ancient theatre; wonderful at sunset.
Driving tips
- The road twists; don't rush and be careful when overtaking.
- There are few petrol stations towards the tip of the peninsula, so fill up in Datça town.
- The last stretch to Knidos is narrow; drive slowly and allow a little time for parking in summer.
- If you will be driving back after dark, it helps to have seen the road in daylight. Return traffic can be heavy in the evening.
- Carry water and sun protection in the summer heat.
