10 Places to Visit in Marmaris by Car

What really makes Marmaris special are the bays and villages around it. With a car you can plan the day at your own pace. Here are 10 places you can visit starting from Marmaris centre; times are approximate.
1. Marmaris Castle and the Old Town
In the town centre and best done on foot. The castle, the narrow lanes, the bazaar and the Netsel Marina area make a good start to the day.
2. İçmeler
About 15–20 minutes from the centre. A long seafront promenade, beaches and restaurants — one of the most relaxed bays near Marmaris.
3. Turunç and Amos ancient city
About 30–40 minutes. A calm bay surrounded by pine forest; the nearby ancient city of Amos combines history with views.
4. Orhaniye and Kızkumu
About 40 minutes. Shallow, clear water and the Kızkumu sandbar you can walk out along in the sea — a family favourite.
5. Selimiye
About 40–50 minutes. A quiet fishing village with boat trips, restaurants and sunset views.
6. Bozburun
About 50–60 minutes. A peaceful peninsula town famous for its gulet building; great for a meal by the water.
7. Akyaka
About 50–70 minutes. Known for the restaurants along the Azmak river, kitesurfing and its wooden Akyaka-style houses.
8. Datça

9. Knidos ancient city
About 2–2.5 hours from Marmaris. At the tip of the peninsula, known for its two harbours and ancient theatre; it deserves a long day.
10. Dalyan and İztuzu Beach
About 1.5–2 hours. The Kaunos rock tombs, river-boat trips and İztuzu Beach, where sea turtles nest.
